Discovering travel and loving it…
Did you ever see the movie Taken?
This question I ask, is because it is the same question I respond to others with when they are shocked to hear I have never traveled before my honeymoon in 2021. A true look of disbelief on people’s face!
Most are quite confused when I respond with that question to say the least. I explain that movie kinda represents the way I was raised lol. I was the girl that did not go on spring break, didn’t not leave after high school to travel abroad, didn’t aspire to be in foreign countries, etc.
Always cracks me up when people are like…”You know Kourtney I think you are a little too old to be taken!” HaHaHa In which, I do know that and besides, within 5 minutes of someone taking me…they for sure would be paying someone to take me back & off their hands! LOL!
I was raised in a household where our vacations (which I LOVED!) were going to Wisconsin and down south Illinois to see family. And yes, I will answer the question you are wondering…my parents were very protective of me. Not in an overbearing way, just a way in “your our only child & our whole world” type of way. Which for me, is perfectly amazing! I don’t feel I missed out on anything!
We just were not a family traveling around the US, Europe, the Caribbean, etc. It just wasn’t my parents’ thing, nor an obtainable thing for us. Which I am totally fine with and wouldn’t change a thing about it!
So, when we were planning the wedding/honeymoon/etc. and my husband to be at that time, originally from Poland…traveling was a must! He also was quite shocked when he met me, to hear I haven’t traveled further than Wisconsin, Utah, Florida or Vegas. LOL!
To say the least, planning a honeymoon to Cancun with the AMAZING Cruise Planners, travel expertise Kelli & Mark Nebijinates, was an adventure!
I have never experienced anything like it in my life before and now…I am hooked on Cancun! I definitely am an anxiety traveler, but once I get there…let’s get it started!!!
On my 1st trip I packed as if the world was ending and I needed to pack up my entire life and fit it in to 2 suitcases, 2 travel roll on suitcases and 2 carry ons. WOW! When I got hit with the over-the-limit baggage fee on both suitcases from American Airlines (as I recall the $400 tab for both ways) about knocked me over!
The look on the employee’s face was priceless, as I burst in to tears and just dumbfounded that I was over the limit. They did try to accommodate, but there was just no where to move anything too. Sadly, all bags were packed to compacity. An expensive lesson learned, a memorable memory to laugh at!
Needless to say, this being my 3rd trip…I am always under the 50lb limit! Not by much, but still…save the baggage fees and I’ll keep the money for fun vacation spending instead LOL!
We have decided to do Cancun now as our annual birthday’s/anniversary trip every end of November/December and I cannot even explain my excitement and love for it!
