The power of “liking”!

Day in and day out millions of users use social media. The continual scrolling of posts is endless. But does one really understand the power of a “like”?

As I started my lifestyle blogging back in November of 2023, I had this vision that everyone I know would be supporting and “liking” because of knowing me. Whether they were a friend, prior coworker, client/prior client, etc. I just believed the support of “liking” would be there, due to our relationship.

I also believed if I was supporting others, they would support me back with following me and “liking” my posts as I so consistently do theirs. As it is free and only seems like good etiquette, common courtesy & common sense.

Why? Because I personally try every day to support my friends, my favorite small businesses, my favorite products/companies, etc. As I want to see everyone succeed, grow and flourish!

Now, please understand I was NOT thinking that the huge companies of the world (Amazon, Starbucks, Target, etc.) were going to suddenly start following me, sharing me & liking me. I’m definitely not unrealistic with my expectations!

I began to speak to other small business, owners, bloggers, etc. and learned they are having the same issues. They were also dumbfounded with the lack of family, friends, coworkers, customers, etc. not “liking” their posts, stories, reels, etc.

I began to wonder…do people realize or understand how important it is to like, share & support their favorites?

• Do they realize that every “LIKE” of a post is an opportunity for more visibility for that small business, blogger, etc.?

• Do they realize it is FREE?

• Do they realize it could really HELP the ones they like get more traction and opportunity for growth?

• Do they realize that when they “LIKE” something, others see this in their feeds and may click on the post and find a new person/business to follow and like?

• Do they really understand the power of their “LIKE”?

I have to believe the answer is NO!

It’s hard to think that people would not want to support the ones they like, love and want to see succeed! It’s easier to think that they just don’t understand and need some help in understanding.

I began to dig deeper and watch people’s scrolling habits and ask others why they just scroll endlessly and rarely like posts. The overall consensus was it was a way to unwind, watch social media and they don’t think of it as I was explaining.

Digging even deeper, I started asking my personal friends that own businesses on their practices. I received a lot of “I love your support & likes of my posts” and “your so great at following me, liking me, etc.”

In which it is hard to bite my tongue and not ask, “then why are you not doing the same for me?” Wouldn’t it make more sense to support one another, then to sit back and just take all of the “likes” without helping those helping you?!?

It is rather mind blowing to me as we all know the viral videos, the TikTokers, YouTubers, etc. all became famous from people following and liking. They certainly did not get to where they are by everyone scrolling and passing them by.

I’m sure some will say, well maybe you are not posting things they like, your posts are not good or engaging, etc. with a million other thoughts. And sure that could be true. But, if you support & genuinely like certain people in your life, why not help…it’s FREE!

So, I thought to myself…maybe putting out a blog post to educate people would help all of those trying so hard to succeed. As this is not a “oh poor me no one likes my posts” story.

This is a blog post to educate, encourage & teach the understanding that their “like” could help one in more ways than they can imagine! And it is FREE and takes literally a second to hit the “like” button.

My advice to all…if you have a friend, family, small business, blogger, hairdresser, real estate, insurance agent, chef, travel agent, photographer, etc. that you really truly like…help them out and “like” their posts! And if you want to give even more support, simple comments on their posts are HUGE and sharing their posts!

You never know what one positive action can lead too! And besides…why would you not want to help and see the people you truly like and support succeed?!?
